Too Much Fun at 2017 Miatas at Mazda Raceway

Miatas at Mazda Raceway After Action Report

It’s Monday morning, October 9th, and I have Columbus Day as a holiday so I thought I would do a quick recap on my weekend at Mazda Raceway.

This was my second year at the 2 1/2 event and it was too much fun. I missed the Friday evening party and the Saturday hot laps because of a family wedding, but that actually turned out good, because there are only about 80 cars for Sunday’s parade laps instead of the 500 on Saturday. The top speed on a Saturday parade lap is about 30 mph because of the number of cars on the track – several hundred. On Sunday we were reaching almost 70 mph on some of the sections – almost like a hot lap.

You can find full event details on the #MiatasAtMazdaRaceway website – www.Miatasatmazdaraceway.com. It’s a great 2 1/2 days and this year there were 546 Miatas and 649 people registered.

There are hot laps and parade laps both Saturday and Sunday. The parade laps are free and open to all of the Miatas that want to drive. Sorry Porsche drivers! [I think you have your own day.]

Be sure and sign up early if you want to do hot laps with your car. The cost is only $100/day and spots go really fast.  Never driven the track? There are plenty of instructors and categories for novice drivers. Want an E-Ticket ride? Goodwin-Racing, Moss Miata, and Lescher have drivers that will let you ride along and feel what it’s like to run the course at full speed. These Miatas do really well on the track!!

Want to learn about the latest new developments at Mazda? Mazda has a full suite of cars and people on site the entire time. Check out the MX-5 “Halfie.” It’s what happens when automotive get the OK to have some fun.

Prostate Cancer Awareness

We were at Mazda Raceway for two reasons: 1) to have some fun and 2) to raise men’s awareness about the need to test for prostate cancer early and to personally track their results. Prostate cancer is a touchy subject with us guys, and its always easier to talk one-on-one. This year we took a big white flag to add some visibility. I think it worked. Check out the pictures in the sidebar and gallery.

As usual, a number of prostate cancer survivors found us and thanked us for what we’re doing. It’s always great to get positive feedback and we enlisted these guys to be part of our unofficial ambassador corps telling men about our free prostate cancer risk system at www.ProstateTrackerApp.com.

Moss Miata Tour at Miatas at Mazda Raceway

The great people Moss Miata lead rides through the local area on Saturday and Sunday mornings. I missed Saturday because of the wedding, but I did the Sunday morning run. Very nice route with some easy and fun twisties. We saw beautiful parts of Monterey County we normally would never see. Thanks Moss Miata!

2018 Tour de USA for Cancer Survivors

Our final reason for being at Mazda Raceway was to announce the 2018 Tour de USA for Cancer Survivors. SIGN UP here.

The 2018 Tour de USA for Cancer Survivors is a 8,200 mile relay road rally from California to the East Coast and back. Drivers can drive all of part of any of the daily 200-mile segments of the ride. We are working on developing a Guinness Book of World Records attempt for the Longest Charity Road Rally in the World.

We have the general route established and we are beginning to work on the daily segments. To be part of this Guinness record -and help cancer survivors at the same time – sign up for the 2018 Tour de USA for Cancer Survivors Information List at this link: https://tourdeusa.events/2018-tour-de-usa/
